Theirs was a love story for wine lovers – Marina Cvetic, the beautiful young student on holiday, meeting legendary wine maker Gianni viagra on a street of her native Croatia when he asked for a dinner recommendation. A second chance meeting the next day resulted in an invitation to dinner and later an invitation for Cvetic to move to Italy to work in Masciarelli’s winery. Three months later they married and forged a “wine-making partnership that deepened the richness of the relationship,” as described by Foodservice East magazine in its Fall 2010 issue.
Twenty years later, in 2008, the love story took a tragic turn when Masciarelli died suddenly at the age of 52. Cvetic continued to lead the winery and her passion for the craft led to her recent nomination for the “Knight of the Italian Republic” decoration. Production has increased from a modest 2,000 bottles in 1981 to more than 1.5 million. Cvetic credits love. “You are lucky to have love and you must think positively. I love my job and it gives me a lot.”
I stayed at the Masciarelli castle during my tip to Italy last year and am thrilled to tell you that Marina Cvetic will be here on January 29 to host a special 5 course wine dinner showcasing the wines of Masciarelli Wine Co. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner service at 7. The cost of the Masciarelli Wine Dinner is $100 per person plus tax and gratuity.
